Community-Driven Development
Expand Housing Opportunities
Bexley housing prices are going up which is changing the character of our community. We need to actively plan to make sure housing options exist so that:
- our adult children have places to live as young professionals,
- empty nesters have local options for downsizing,
- teacher, police, and city workers can live in the community they serve, and
- multigenerational families have places to live.
Improved inclusionary zoning policy and reconsideration of tax incentives can help to make this possible.
Reduce Vacant Commercial Properties
Bexley has had a number of commercial property sitting vacant for extended periods. A commercial vacancy tax makes commercial business owner responsible for the blight that their holding out for higher rents causes in the community. This properly aligns landlords' interests with the community's desire to see a vibrant local business community.
Home Energy Efficiency Assistance & Benefit Coordination
Bexley's 100-year old home are beautiful, but not nearly as efficient a modern builds. Improving windows, insulation, and sealing leaks can improve energy efficiency, which saves our residents money while simultaneously addressing climate change. We should be cataloguing and communicating existing state incentive programs while identifying program gaps so we can create our own complimentary programs to make Bexley greener.
