Safer, Stronger Community
Protection from Deadbeat Contractors
Renovations, upgrades, and repairs are simply and aspect of life in Bexley. Some of our neighbors are getting taken advantage of by contractors who fail to complete jobs and disappear with the money. We need to expand, communicate, and enforce our contractor registration and insurance requirements to protect of residents from being taken advantage of.
Safer School Crossings
We've had a number of children recently struck by vehicles on their way to school by drivers going through red lights. Actively patrolled crossings at major intersections, when school starts and ends, will help to make drivers cautious and more like to see (and respect) red lights, which will help prevent vehicles from colliding with children. Existing strategic planning has called for pursuing adult volunteer crossing guards and seasonal traffic data collection (to know when & where to target enforcement), these options are also.
Expanded Bexley Rec Capacity
Bexley Rec has many great community programs and activities offered, but they often fill so quickly that many residents have no opportunity to be involved. There is clearly a community interest in expanding the capacity of Bexley Rec activities to meet the community demand. We should seek out more staff and volunteers to do offer more programming.
Improved Livingston Ave Traffic Safety
Traffic speeds and collisions on Livingston Avenue have been a longstanding concern and leave many families reluctant to cross Livingston. The City of Columbus Police currently patrol Livingston Ave. While they are open to having Bexley take over enforcement in that corridor, the cost of full takeover has been significant. Consequently, the middle-ground approach of a joint jurisdiction agreement where Bexley gains the authority to police the corridor in additional to the City of Columbus' parallel authority would allow Bexley to address traffic issues without requiring the commitment necessary to take over the entire area.
